Residents urged to air view on new Spondon housing plan

You may be aware that an outline planning application has been lodged with Derby City Council Planning Department to build upto 250 social and private houses on the field at the back of Derby Road/Acorn Way.

The application argues that the land is currently overgrown and unmaintained and that local transport infrastructure and amenities around the area are ideal to support the new development. The applicant is also proposing as part of the development to "facilitate the replacement of the temporary classrooms and the future expansion of West Park Academy [and] to facilitate improvements to the nature conservation area".

However, many local residents have expressed their disagreement with the proposals stating that they fear that the roads around the area are already busy enough, Spondon's schools don't have the space for additional pupils and that the development would result in the loss of popular green space in Spondon.

A public meeting about the application was held by local councillors at Spondon Methodist Church on 14th October and was attended by more than 100 people seeking information and advice about the proposals.

For those who were unable to attend and want further advice on the planning application, you can contact any of your local Spondon councillors via the contact details here. Alternatively if you have Facebook we can be contacted at www.facebook.com/spondoncouncillors

Residents have until November 7th to submit their views on the planning ap[plication to the Council.
