Spondon Neighbourhood Forum update

The latest Spondon Neighbourhood Forum meeting was held on 26th September. There was a discussion about the feedback from June forum when residents were asked what they thought about Spondon. The discussion focussed on Community Safety and anti social behaviour, but the feedback also provided views about the environment, the strength of the community, highways and transport, community facilities and health.

Some key messages that came out were:

Safer Spondon:

  • Safer Spondon: 92% said Spondon is fairly safe or very safe.
  • Community safety - 45% said anti social behaviour was their main concern with 24% saying speeding
  • Anti social behaviour - 43% said inconsiderate parking was the main problem with 26% saying vandalism or damage to property and 15% saying young people hanging about
  • Crime - 26% said criminal damage was their main crime concern, 23% said burglary and 23% said car crime

    Local facilities:

  • 29% said the lack of village centre facilities was their main concern and 24% said lack of facilities for young people
  • 38% said the lack of parking in the village deterred them from using the village centre

    Community:

  • Strength of Community: 93% said Spondon community is fairly strong or very strong
  • 41% said they had no concerns about the communities in Spondon, but 18% said they are not able to influence decisions that affect them.
  • Community facilities; 59% said Spondon community facilities in Spondon are fairly good or very good
  • People were asked how much they were able to influence decisions that affect Spondon. 26% said a lot, 21% said enough, 41% said a little and 13% said not at all.

    Environment and Health:

  • 94% said Spondon environment is fairly good or very good
  • Environment - 23% said cleanliness of the Village centre was their main concern with the environment.
  • Cleanliness - 36% said dog fouling was their main concern about cleanliness and 31% said litter in Spondon.
  • Highways and Transport - 61% said that heavy goods vehicles using the village as a route was their main concern
  • Health - 36% said increasing physical activity was the main health related issue that local people can help influence.

    The next Spondon Neighbourhood Forum is on Wednesday 28 November at 6pm at Spondon Village Hall

  • Derby City Council Environmental Enforcement Response Service- 642020 to report evidence about fly tipping, dog fouling, fly posting, graffiti and littering.
  • Police - 101 for non-emergency calls or 999 for emergencies only
