Update from Spondon Councillor Harvey Jennings on the latest news, actions and priority issues from the Spondon Neighbourhood Board:
Work has continued apace throughout the summer months culminating in the excellent Spondon Festival which I am sure many of you enjoyed. Many thanks must go to the organisers and to the many sponsors of the event which ensured a weekend packed with fun for all the family.
Many of you were concerned at the news that the Number 19 bus service was to be withdrawn. The operator of the service has now kindly agreed to continue the service on a commercial basis. This essentially means that the service must be used or it will eventually be withdrawn if it does not receive the usage it needs to make it viable.
The following issues are currently being addressed by the Neighbourhood team:
All of the above are funded by the Neighbourhood Board and suggestions for future allocations of funding to improve the environment in which we live and work are always encouraged and can be made at any Neighbourhood Forum Meeting. Additionally community groups can apply for funding to the Neighbourhood Board and an update on this year’s successful applications will appear in the next Neighbourhood update.
There are many other areas where the Neighbourhood Board are very active, particularly with regards to our parks and open spaces and we are continually striving to improve them. We are also in consultation over any new developments in the area to ensure that they deliver the best outcome for our community.
Despite our recent "Indian Summer" with temperatures well above the seasonal average, it's important to remember that the cold weather is not far away. It is essential that we are all prepared for the cold months to come and servicing of heating systems, cutting back of gardens and consideration of any outdoor pets should be at the forefront of our current plans.
The Neighbourhood Team hope that you have all had a very good summer and more updates will follow here on Spondon Online, in the e-newsletter and in future editions of C & C of Spondon.
