The latest book in the Spondon Archive series features a subject close to a lot of Spondonian's hearts - our local Pubs and Clubs!
The book details the history of all Spondon's current hostelries and also remembers the once-popular venues that are sadly no more such as the Asterdale Club, Angler's Arms, Crown Inn and Yarn Spinner pubs. It also reveals some of the buildings in Spondon that you may not know used to be pubs and also uncovers details of some even older mystery pubs from Spondon's past.
You can also test your knowledge with the "which pub" quiz, find out why there were once fewer pubs in the area than there might have been and also discover the old rules of the intriguingly-named Shaving and Swearing Club from back in the day!!
The new book launched at the Spondon Alight 2021 event and is now available to buy in a number of village shops including Spondon News, Cherrytree Framers, Housley Pharmacy and Simnett Funeral Directors. You may also see it popping up sale soon in a few of the pubs featured in the book too! If you're not local, you can also order copies to be posted to you by emailing info@spondonhistory.org.uk
The book is the 17th title in the series of local history books produced by the Spondon Archive team. Read more about the full series here.
