Derby City Council has made an extra £10,000 of funding available to Spondon Neighbourhood Board to address local Streetpride issues. From April 2011, each ward in the City will have a total of £36,000 available for them to spend on local priority projects.
£6,000 is made available to Spondon community groups and organisations each year to help fund local groups, activities and projects. Recent examples of where funding has been granted include sporting clubs, Spondon Village Festival and help for the Traders Association to organise the Spondon Alight celebrations and illuminations. Details of who can apply and how to do so can be found at the council's web site, www.derby.gov.uk, or by contacting the Spondon neighbourhood manager or one of your local councillors (details below).
The Neighbourhood Board have £10,000 available to them to spend on issues in respect of Community Safety, Youth Provision or Highways issues in the village. Previous projects have included funding for youth clubs, scout groups, dropped kerbs and a variety of security equipment.
Streetpride is a new initiative set up to help deliver Council services on a local partnership level, including everything from dog mess, street cleaning, waste services to street lighting, highways issues and maintenance. You can report problems directly to Street pride by emailing streetpride@derby.gov.uk, telephoning 0333 200 6981 (local call rate) or online at www.derby.gov.uk/streetpride.
There is now a great chance to shape Streetpride Services in Spondon according to the wishes of local people. The Board have a fund of £20,000 from Streetpride budgets which they can allocate to resolve issues raised by residents at Forums and in other ways. Projects being considered include the refurbishment of pavements in the centre of the village and ways to address parking problems around our schools and junctions.
