Neighbourhood Board Priorities for 2013/14

The Spondon Neighbourhood Board has outlined its priorities for the coming year.

These are:

1.    Build a stronger Spondon Community    

  • Communicate work of Spondon Board
  • Gather views of young people and engage them in decisions
  • Promote ways to get involved
  • Support formation of community groups

2.    A better built and natural environment

  • Make roads and footways safer in Spondon 
  • Improve accessibility of facilities
  • Tackle vehicle parking issues, and improve public transport and cycling improvements in the Village centre
  • Reduce heavy goods vehicles through the Village
  • Improve the environment and open spaces
  • Reduce the challenges posed by climate change
  • Reduce dog mess and litter
  • Improve the area around Sandringham Drive/Dale Road

3.    Being safe and feeling safe    

  • Reduce antisocial behaviour 
  • Tackle auto crime
  • Crime prevention - dwelling burglary
  • Reduce the fear of crime
  • Tackle safety around schools

4.    An active and cultural life    

  • Create a thriving and vibrant Spondon
  • Promote Spondon as a place to live, shop and visit
  • Develop and improve positive activities and facilities for young people
  • Promote and improve activities and facilities for older people
  • Promote community events

5.    Create a healthier Spondon community    

  • Improve access to health provision
  • Tackle obesity
  • Support local GP Practices priorities

During the year the Board intends to focus in three particular areas.
1.    Investigation to identify and address vehicle parking issues, public transport and cycling improvements in the Village centre.
2.    Investigation to identify improvements to parking and access at Dale Road shopping area.
3.    Work with partner agencies to address a number of issues such as poor pavements, parking, grounds maintenance and school safety issues identified by residents in the housing area at the Dale Road end of Sandringham Drive.
