We may be just about ready for the arrival of Spring, but the Spondon Traders Association are already planning well ahead for later in the year and are already preparing for the 2013 Christmas Lights Switch On, the date for which has been set as Friday 22nd November.
This from Spondon traders Association chairman, Mark Davis:
"So now the dust of Christmas and the New Year has settled, and already the Easter Egg rush looms. Absolutely frightening, isn't it.
Whilst looking backwards a little, I must say how wonderful it was to see everyone out for the Spondon Alight. It was such a great atmosphere, and if you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did, then you must have had a great time.
Relive the fantastic evening via the Spondon Online video page here.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank some people and groups that made the evening such a great success, and this is in no particular order. West Transport provided the trailer for our stage, without any charge. Stunning. St Werburgh's School Choir, Mixed Blessings Choir, the Woden Cub Troop Bell Ringers, DanceWorks Unlimited and Derby Acapella all excelled themselves on the stage with wonderful performances. And then Rick Sheehan. What can you say! A great performance from a true Spondonian, without any charge again. Thanks Rick.
We had amazing help from the Army Cadets as marshalls, and my thanks to Samm Jennings for her great help coordinating these great young people. Then the young people of Spondon who helped so much by carrying the collecting buckets around, they were great. The Police and PCSOs helped so much with there background skills, making it safe and comfortable for us all.
And what can be said about The Fairy Queen and Santa? Such an amazing effort, how lucky were we to get them to visit Spondon Village Hall, where all the "Tea and Cake" people were working so hard.
I must finally mention the incredible hard work put in by the Spondon Traders Committee. Working quietly ( and not so quietly) in the background. These amazing people ( Tim, Tony, Sheila, Julie and Richard on the stage set up) just made it happen.
But my biggest thank you must go to you, the residents of, and visitors to, Spondon. Without your support on the night the event wouldn't happen. But more importantly, thank you for your support throughout the year! It's your village, and we love being part of it, being there, serving you.
So what next? Great plans are being put in place, with the date of Spondon Alight 2013 set for Friday November 22nd."
Help is needed more than ever this year to make the event another huge success. If you feel you can volunteer your help or services in any way to help the Spondon Traders deliver another fantastic evening, please contact Mark Davis on 01332 666760 to find out more.
