Funding agreed for local environment and safety projects

Spondon Neighbourhood Board has continued to allocate funding to groups and projects to address the Boards priorities. Residents who attended the Spondon Neighbourhood forum on 28 November identified a number of problems regarding the environment and keeping Spondon safe.

They identified places that needed attention and cleaning up and came up with some solutions. The Board has now agreed funding for the following projects to address these local priorities to improve the environment and keep Spondon safe:

  • Install a Speed Indicator Device on Moor Street
  • Clean up the bollards that were removed from Dale Park car park for future use
  • 'Deep clean' Spondon’s parks and open spaces (see below)
  • Refurbish 16 cast iron street name plates
  • Install a new handrail along the jitty from Mercian Mews to Merchant Avenue
  • Supply and plant an Acer campestre "Elsrijk on Derby Road verge
  • Remove basal growth from Sycamore tree on Derby Road verge
  • Deadwood and crown lift Oak tree on Derby Road verge.
  • Prune yew trees at the entrance to Sensory Garden on Chapel Street
  • Crown lift and dead wood Oak tree by roadside at Sensory Garden Chapel Street
  • Cut back dying yew tree and commission a carving on the yew tree in Sensory garden
  • Landscape and tidy up area by Lodge Lane open space under the steps over A52
