Following on from the previous details regarding action being taken to tackle anti-social behaviour in Spondon, the Neighbourhood Board is continuing to work with the Police, Youth Service, local businesses and young people to find a solution to the issues, particularly on the Precinct at Chapel Street.
A Section 30 Dispersal Order has now been granted for the area, enabling the Police to move on people causing ASB and remove non-Spondon residents causing problems for 24 hours. Full details here.
In addition, the Board have agreed to fund an extension to the existing anti-sit bars on Chapel Side, and continue to fund Spondon Youth Club Activities. Since October the problem of anti-social behaviour has continued around Chapel Side.
It has been a Police priority for many months and a number of recent meetings have taken place to build up a series of interventions and solutions to tackle this problem. No one single solution is felt will solve the problems. It needs a mix of education, enforcement and adapting the location to make both a short term and longer term impact.
Partners acknowledge that the anti-sit bars have done a good job at deterring people from sitting on the low walls on the front and displaced the problem along the wall. Spondon Youth Workers are also continuing to work with young people to educate them on improving their image with residents and be more considerate of people's perceptions.
