A new website dedicated to the memory and in honour of Spondon's much-loved Vicar, The Reverend T.E.M. Barber will shortly be launched by Steve Beet and Len Seale.
It will feature photographs from the 48 year history of the Spondon Church Boys' Club and memories and tributes from old boys, parishioners and others from as far afield as Tomsk, Russia and Sydney, Australia (so scattered are Mr Barber's old boys now),as well as from folk still living in Spondon.
The Reverend Barber was Vicar for 48 years from 1939 and spent his entire ministry in the Village. He was a much-loved and hugely respected and now legendary figure. It is our hope this this lasting tribute will be testament to this great man.
So far a great many memories have been received and several hundred photographs of the life of Spondon Church and the Boys' Club. The two photographs show the visit of HRH The Duke of Gloucester to the Boys Club in 1977 and a snooker competition in the club hut behind the Vicarage in the early 1980s.
